Shabbat in Birmingham

We are here in Birmingham! This morning, after a quick stop for photos outside of Brown AME Church in Selma (where the march from Selma to Montgomery began) , we hit the road.

Our first destination was the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute–an incredible museum that tells the story not only of Birmingham, but the entire Civil Rights Movement. We also had the opportunity to peek inside of the 16th Street Baptist Church, where in 1963, four young girls died in a racially motivated bombing.

Now we are getting ready for Shabbat at the hotel–we’ll be at Temple Emanuel tonight and Beth-El tomorrow. Tonight, because we have kitchens in our rooms, we will be cooking family dinner! Tomorrow we’ll have services, some lunch with congregants at Beth-El, and then some good Shabbat down time.

Shabbat Shalom, y’all!
